Closer Apart 《团圆》 is a short film about treasuring your loved ones, and not taking them for granted.Here's their official synopsis found at the back of their DVD:
'Closer Apart' is a heartwarming short film that highlights the importance of cherishing familial ties through a subtle illustration of our inability to value the little things and people around us in the face of mordernity.
As we unravel the story of a father's increasing drift from his family, 'Closer Apart' reveals itself to be an authentic record of the joys, heartaches and frustrations of an ordinary Singaporean family.
Now wasn't that touching :')
here's a thing to take note: this short film is a production by a small group of NYJC J2 students from Class 1336. They spent 1 whole year preparing and making this short film. This is a super amazing feat that not many 17/18 year olds can accomplish, given the magnitude and the professionalism of the production.
After watching the short film,
I did stop and ponder, how often do we neglect our family members just because we are too caught up with our own lives? How often do we stop to realise that the time we could have spent with our family members have been wasted on something unimportant?
This short film has a simple plot that achieved it's objectives and purpose of bringing awareness to the public about the importance of being grateful to our family members, and even those around us
Even with a simple plot, the film is able to portray the realism of the situation of most families in Singapore, and that's the beauty of this film.
As my mother said after watching the DVD of this short film, "It doesn't matter whether it is made by a famous big-shot producer, or whether it is made by a group of teens. What matters is the intention of making this film. It doesn't matter whether a lot of people saw the public screening of the short film, cause with the DVD, one person can spread to another. People might think 'oh what is the purpose of this film? Why is Kong Meng San distributing it?'. Well, as the DVD spreads, more people will be aware of the reality of the film and be more self-conscious about being filial to their parents. A small seed planted, and many fruits will bare. This may not be a massive production with massive publicity, but the good deed of making this film will be everlasting, so as long as a single person benefits from it."
After a year of hardwork, sweat blood and tears,
my girl Yi Jia and her production team of good friends in NYJC finally made it
and not to forget, all the endless nights and efforts my girl Belicia put in with the production team to edit the short film
I am so proud of their work, and I am amazed by how far they have come
